Kulturen’s Östarp
Come and experience the historic farming environment at Kulturen’s Östarp, dating from the mid-19th century and featuring buildings, animals and gardens in a heritage landscape. Gamlegård, our half-timbered farmhouse with an enclosed courtyard, is open to visitors during the summer season. Östarp Inn (Östarps gästgivaregård) serves food and drink all year round and you can also enjoy walks in the area in all seasons.
Houses and buildings at Kulturen's Östarp
Thanks to a generous donation, the founder of Kulturen, Georg Karlin, was able to buy Gamlegård at Östarp in 1922. Karlin’s original idea was to move the half-timbered farmhouse with its enclosed courtyard to Kulturen in Lund, but he ultimately decided to create a living museum in the midst of the heritage landscape instead. Complementing the main house are examples of the type of farm buildings previously found on the site, such as a windmill and a malthouse. Kulturen also later built the Östarp Inn (Östarps gästgivaregård) based on a traditional design as well as a half-timbered house for our farmworker.
Native animal breeds
Kulturen’s Östarp is home to a number of traditional native animal breeds during the summertime. Come and watch black-spotted Linderöd pigs rooting around in the pig sty alongside Gamlegård and make friends with our Göinge goats in the nearby goat enclosure. You’ll also be able to enjoy watching cows, horses, rabbits, geese and ducks roam the grounds.
