’Of course you want to sell! Make great stuff that people like. Things that nice ladies wear, and that you see in all the windows.’
Sven Fristedt has been active in Skåne since his twenties. He is one of the most prolific and appreciated textile designers of our time. For decades, he has designed fabrics for Borås Wäfveri AB and IKEA – among several others – as well as for Katja of Sweden’s fashion collections.
Many would say that Sven Fristedt’s patterns evoke a sense of familiarity. His original and characteristic designs have adorned curtains, sofas, tablecloths and bed linen in countless homes. During the 1960s, 70s and 80s, his fabrics were exported to every corner of the world. Today, his fabrics are sought after once again – in Sweden as well as in Japan
Industrially manufactured fabrics are an important part of the everyday designs that surround us and have developed into a modern cultural textile heritage.
